Follow these steps to create a new Explore report in GA4 using the Segment Overlap technique:
- Select Segment Overlap Technique: Change the technique to Segment Overlap.
- Create Segments for Top Tasks: For each top task, create a segment. Here's how:
- Click the '+' sign next to "SEGMENTS".
- Choose "User segment".
- Click "Add new condition".
- Search for and select "Top Task".
- Click "Add filter".
- Enter the name of the top task.
- Name the segment and click "Save and apply".
Now that you have your segments for each top task, you can proceed to identifying behaviors related to the top tasks.
- Identify Related Behaviors: Ideally, top tasks should be measured as a conversion or an event in Google Analytics. If not, you can still identify behaviors related to the top task. For instance, for the Satisfyly website one of its top tasks is purchasing Satisfyly. We have created a segment of everyone who has contacted us to purchase Satisfyly. Alternatively, if your goal is content related, you can create a segment of users who view a specific type of content.
- Apply Segments to Report: After creating the two segments, apply them to the report. By following these steps, you can gain valuable insights about your users' behaviors and measure the effectiveness of your top tasks.
